Management and Development for Health (MDH) Vacancy

 VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Management and Development for Health (MDH) is a local NGO focusing primarily on public health service and research in the United Republic of Tanzania. MDH is the sub-grant recipient for the Leading Safe Choices programme, led by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) of United Kingdom and works in close collaboration with the Tanzania Ministry of Health in selected health facilities for a 3-year pilot in Tanzania. Leading Safe Choices aims to strengthen the competence and raise the standard of family planning professionals by promoting best practice, training and support systems to build skills and professionalise family planning and comprehensive post abortion care services.
The programme seeks to recruit mentors who will supervise and support health care providers in the workplace to increase counselling in PPFP and the provision of PPIUD services.

POSITION: MENTORS TO BUILD CAPACITY OF SERVICE PROVIDERS OF POST PARTUM FAMILY PLANNING (4)
This position reports directly to the Project Manager

Duties and Responsibilities.
 To establish group PPFP counselling before antenatal clinics
 To increase individual PPFP counselling during antenatal clinics
 To increase individual PPFP counselling on antenatal wards, post- natal wards, women in early labour; ie. utilise all opportunities to counsel women about the importance and availability of PPFP – emphasizing the most effective methods
 To follow-up and provide supportive supervision for PPFP counselling course participants by review of counselling logbooks
 To provide ‘on the job’ training, support and supervision for PPIUD insertion including provision of feedback and completion of logbooks as appropriate
 To assess HCP for competency after 10+ supervised PPIUD insertions
 To undertake ‘supportive supervision’ after ‘competency’ attained
 To develop and contribute to update/support meetings for HCP providing PPFP services – 6 monthly
 To work closely with and foster good relationships with all the relevant stake holders to create a positive environment for the role out of the implementation of the project
 To maintain the required standards of quality of care in the execution of all duties as set out in the RCOG best practices papers and aligned with the DOH policies and standard operating procedures
 Attend refresher courses in PPFP to stay abreast with any new developments

 To trouble – shoot challenges and barriers to further development.

Essential post Requirements:
 General nurse / midwifery qualification
 Excellent interpersonal communication skills
 Advocacy role for PPFP and PPIUD as part of HCP’s service provision
 Commitment towards increasing provision of high quality PPFP and PPIUD services
 A commitment to decreasing maternal mortality and morbidity and empowering women to make informed choices about their SRH
 Problem solving skills
 Flexibility in approach

Desirable post
 Counselling training or qualification
 Teaching training or qualification
 Previous experience of supportive supervision and training in the workplace
 Experience in public speaking
 Higher qualification in public health/Sexual Reproductive Health and Family Planning
