The Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU)
based at the National Institute for Medical Research campus in Mwanza, Tanzania
is a collaborative research unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine and the National Institute for Medical Research. The mission of the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit is to contribute to improving health through the development and evaluation of interventions against HIV and other
health problems by conducting research, including clinical trials, to the highest international standards; to enhance the capacity to carry out such research in Tanzania and the East African region; and to contribute to the translation of research findings into health policy.

The Unit is now inviting applications from
motivated and suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position to assist on
vaccine studies:
Community Engagement Manager - Mwanza
Specific responsibilities
·
Providing study information to potential
participants & parents
·
Guiding and supporting potential
participants to visit study clinics for further information
·
Working with other study staff to manage
participants' follow-up
visit appointments
·
Maintain written & computerised record-keeping of mobilisation
activities
·
Maintaining updated contact information of
participants recruited in the study
·
Tracing study participants to ensure they
attend all planned visits according to study protocol
·
Assisting in the management of a team of
community mobilisation staff
·
Performing any other trial-related activity
as may be requested by the trial manager
Essential qualifications
·
At least five years' work experience, including at least two years' work
experience with schools and
parents in health and/or
development-related issues.
·
Minimum diploma in community health, social sciences, public health or a related field
·
A certificate or higher qualification in
health or community development studies or related field
·
Fluency in written and spoken English & Swahili
·
Commitment to working as part of a
multidisciplinary research team
·
Proven ability in using Microsoft Office
(Word / Excel / Powerpoint)
·
Ability to work independently as part of a
multidisciplinary team
·
Experience in supervision of or managing a
team of staff
·
Experience of writing progress reports
·
Proven field experience in health or
community work
Desirable qualifications
·
Work experience on international projects
·
Previous experience working in health-related research
studies or clinical trials
·
Previous GCP training
• Excellent
interpersonal skills and a
highly professional attitude.
Desirable qualifications
·
Post graduate/advanced training in immunology.
·
Ability to multi-task since each clinical protocol may have unique processing requirements.
·
Experience working with clinical trials or research studies.
·
Familiarity with GCP and GCLP.
