Position Field Officer (FO)

Project: Chaguo la Maisha

Location: Dar es Salaam

Reports to: Maternal and Child Health Manager (MCH-M)
Management and Development for Health (MDH) is a non-governmental organization that supports government efforts in addressing public health priorities in Tanzania. For the past two years MDH has been working in collaboration with Pathfinder International- Tanzania office to implement the Chaguo la Maisha project, which aims at improving community access and uptake of modern contraceptives and comprehensive post abortion care (cPAC) services in Temeke Municipality.
As this phase of the project is moving towards its end, on 30th November 2017, MDH seeks to engage a qualified individual, to serve for a specific short-term role as the project’s field officer. The selected candidate will lead the project’s field activities for the remaining 1.5 months of the project, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability and performance. The field officer will be responsible in overseeing day to day implementation of the project including engagement of community health workers in community interventions to generate demand for modern contraceptives, provide home based follow up for users of modern contraceptives and increase awareness of comprehensive post abortion care services in 17 wards of Temeke municipality. The candidate will also work hand in hand with the field M&E officer - under the guidance of MDH’s MCH Manager - to support project monitoring, evaluation and dissemination.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• To coordinate and oversee day to day implementation of all project activities
• To participate in recruitment and orientation of CHW and CHW supervisors on the project and their responsibilities
• To organize and undertake all trainings and other capacity building activities for CHWs and CHWs supervisors
• To conduct and support mentorship and supportive supervision of CHWs and the CHW supervisors in undertaking their responsibilities
• To provide technical assistance to community health workers (CHWs) in conducting household visit and counseling on FP and cPAC services in accordance with project protocol and national standards
• To provide close follow up and supervision of the activities of community health workers (CHWs) and CHW supervisors to ensure that they meet their weekly, monthly and quarterly targets
• To support and promote effective linkages and communication among CHWs, CHW supervisors, health care providers (HCPs) and health facilities governing boards so as to ensure successful linkages and follow up across the continuum of care
• To ensure appropriate community, local government leaders and health facility governing boards in the implementation wards are well informed about the project and its progress.

• To provide technical assistance to CHWs and CHW supervisors in accurate documentation and reporting of project activities through the use of the mHealth system
• To conduct and support weekly and monthly meetings with CHW, CHW supervisors and health care providers (CHWs) as per project work-plan
• To report to and update his/her supervisor on the progress of project implementation on weekly basis or as required by his/her supervisor
• In collaboration with Field project M&E officer, to prepare and submit to his/her supervisor all required project reports as per work-plan
• Perform any other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor

Required qualifications:
• A university degree in health or social welfare related field from a recognized academic institution. Additional training in reproductive health or community health interventions will be an added advantage
• At least three-years of experience implementing reproductive health or community health related interventions
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience working with the community and/or local community leaders and workers
• Proficiency in both written and oral English and Swahili languages
