Background:
The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) is the largest public health research
institution in Tanzania. It was established by the Parliamentary Act No. 23 of 1979 as a
parastatal organization under the Ministry of Health. The establish of NIMR was in
recognition by the government of the need to generate scientific information required
in the development of better methods and techniques of enhancing disease
management, prevention and control in the country.
Our Mission:
To conduct coordinate, regulate and promote scientifically and ethically sound,
high quality health research and deliver evidence-based information that is
responsive to the needs of human wellbeing.
The National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), Mwanza centre
in collaboration
with Cambridge university is conducting parasitological and malacological survey, in
Shinyanga Region, Tanzania. The project is currently looking for suitably qualified
individual to fill the following vacant position:
Laboratory Scientist (1 Post)
Required Qualifications and experience:
·        University Degree in Biomedical Sciences
·        Fluent in English and Kiswahili language
·        At least one year of working experience in schistosomiasis research as well as
using LIMS for laboratory documentation will be added advantage although fresh
graduates will also be considered.
·        Experience in Molecular technology will be an added advantage
·        Demonstrate experience in GCLP
Job descriptions:
·        To receive, process and analyse snail samples and record results
·        To assist in archiving of samples after analysis
·        To complete accurately study documents and forms following methods
described in appropriate study SOPs
·        To compile the laboratory results
• To participate in reports and manuscripts writing
• Participate in other tasks and other study procedures as assigned by Supervisor
