 Background of Totohealth Tanzania Ltd.

Totohealth is a social enterprise based in Moshi town, Kilimanjaro Region. Totohealth aims to contribute towards reaching Tanzania’s national vision of ending preventable maternal and child deaths by 2035. We offer a set of services available over the span of pregnancy, delivery and up to 5 years of a child’s life.

Our package of solutions include
(1) information, education and communication (IEC) through a interactive text messaging platform,
(2) life-saving products including a comprehensive Clean Delivery Kit (CDK) to be used at delivery, and
 (3) Newborn Survival Pack (NSP) with applicable supplies for the mother and for newborn survival for first month of life.

All these services are implemented in partnership with local District Government
Departments, organisations & NGOs with mothers as clients. Our goals is to support Community Health Workers (CHWs) that are linked to these organisations to better provide IEC, continuum of care at household level, and get mothers to deliver with the help of a skilled birth attendant (at a health facility), and have access to the products they need at health-facility and household level.

Position description
The MNCH Technical Lead will provide:
1. SMS & Helpdesk: technical content development and coordination of the SMS helpdesk to
respond to mothers and father’s questions regarding MNCH.
2. Disability content: develop disability triggers (to identify children potentially living with
disabilities) and SMS education content for parents with children living with disabilities. Work
closely with our partners’ in the development and adaptation of SMS disability content for the
Tanzanian context.
3. Products: provide technical input and justify product selection based on best MNCH practices and up to date scientific findings.
4. Innovation: develop with the team innovative products and ideas with MNCH technical
knowledge and experience based on the research outcomes and needs identified.
5. Lead the quality control on all MNCH content in Totohealth’s messaging and products and liaise with MoHCDGEC and partners to ensure content and products are applicable, relevant
and supportive to national MNCH policies and guidelines and to our end-users needs.

Responsibilities
SMS & Helpdesk:
Oversee and take part in the SMS formulation and improvement of messages / content.
Provide technical oversight, strategic direction and support for the implementation of
program activities and content developed to follow National MoHCDGEC standards and
guidelines
Ensure the SMS responses are technically sound, following MoHCDGEC standard protocol and abiding to MoHCDGEC policies and guidelines
Develop systems & review SMS responses to questions being sent by parents with medical intern teams
Train medical interns on the effective daily running of the helpdesk to provide quality
responses to parents
Manage the translation of any content from English to local languages
Supervise the work of medical interns supporting with the response of questions coming into the helpdesk
Organize, support and monitor the smooth running of SMS helpdesk
Develop and upkeep of SMS response depository database

Disability:
Lead the disability mapping in Tanzania with strategic knowledge partners in the sector.
Develop disability triggers (to identify children potentially living with disabilities) and SMS education content for parents with children living with disabilities.
Support Kenya’s MNCH Expert & Content Development Team in the development and
adaptation of SMS disability content to fit the Tanzanian context.
Lead workshops to gather parents and stakeholder’s feedback in response to the content
developed and accommodate changes discussed.
Closely work with MoHCDGEC to ensure disability content follow national policies and
guidelines and acquire final approval to roll out services.

Products:
Provide technical insight and justify product selection based on MNCH knowledge and up to date scientific findings
Provide input on the development of informative user-guides and all material for clients
Other:
Provide effective guidance & oversight to short-term consultants
Supervise medical interns, translator, consultants & helpdesk staff
Maintain relationships with key MNCH stakeholders in the region
Provide technical assistance to the Country Manager on needed adaptation and changes in the Totohealth RMNCH strategy

Qualifications:
Clinical degree (nurse, midwife, doctor, occupational therapist or physical therapist, other)
Degree in Public Health

Experience and skills
Minimum 2 years of work experience in MNCH
Knowledge of best practices in MNCH and child developmental
Knowledge of care of children with disabilities
Knowledge of Tanzanian MoHCDGEC MNCH guidelines
Management experience
Curriculum, content development
mHealth experience a bonus
