Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:
Under general guidance of Chief of Mission (CoM) and Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the overall supervision of the Migration Health Officer (MHO) and the direct supervision of the National Migration Health Physician, in Kigoma, Tanzania, the incumbent will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Strict adherence to fraud prevention measures in all aspects of work performed for refugees/migrants.
2. Strict adherence to bio-safety measures during specimen collection, laboratory procedures, disposing of, storing and shipping of specimens.
3. Collect specimens for medical screening or treatment follow-up of migrants and sending to outsourced laboratories.
4. Conduct Tuberculosis level II laboratory functions of smear and reading for acid-fast stains only.
5. Follow internationally accepted laboratory procedures when processing specimens for HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, Urine examinations.
6. Maintain high quality in performed laboratory tests.
7. Assist in maintaining laboratory records in a database.
8. Assist in the preparation and submitting of reports of laboratory examinations to requester on time.
9. Assist in the preparation and submitting of stock orders in time, keeping stock records and monitoring consumption.
10. Assist in managing specimens and laboratory materials shipment.
11. Facilitate Internal Quality Assurance System in the laboratory for performed examinations.
12. Assist with the DNA specimen’s collection programs.
13. Assist in drafting and updating of standard operating procedures.
14. Participate in training/refresher trainings.
15. Perform any other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education&Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent qualifications combined with at least 2 years working experience in medical institutions.
· Computer skills especially in Ms Excel, Word and Outlook
· Ability to pay close attention to details and work with minimal supervision
· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
· Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with a team of colleagues
· Able to set up internal record tracking
- In handling and following up medical documents and ability to maintain accuracy and confidentiality in performing responsibilities.
- Previous work experience with an international organization and NGOs dealing with refugees would be a strong advantage
Languages
Fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable.
Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
