The Organization
Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is an international non-profit organization that promotes peaceful resolution of conflict.
With headquarters in Washington, DC and a European office in Brussels, Belgium, SFCG’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. SFCG seeks to help conflicting parties understand their differences and act on their commonalities.
 With a total of approximately 450 staff worldwide, SFCG implements projects from 39 offices in 34 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.

Within Sub-Saharan Africa, SFCG works in sixteen countries: Angola, Burundi, Chad, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, Liberia, Madagascar, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Since 2011, SFCG works in Tanzania to develop responsible business practices in the extractive industry sector, to promote gender equality and improve the relationship between government and Civil Society.

Summary of Position
SFCG Tanzania is preparing to implement two projects in the country with the overall objective to prevent violent extremism and promote alternative, peaceful coexistence.

The projects will be implemented in four areas: Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Zanzibar and Tanga.

Both projects seek to empower local communities through an innovative mix of trainings, media campaigns, community dialogue and community-led initiatives activities to prevent the threat of violent extremism. The projects will engage with a wide range of stakeholders: community and religious leaders, local authorities, security officials, and community members, with particular focus on women and youth.
SFCG is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Project Coordinator to oversee the implementation of both projects.

S/he will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the project, including implementing project activities, managing the project team, ensuring a sound financial management of the project, and reporting to donors.

This will require a regular travel to project locations to maintain regular contact with the focal points and key local stakeholders. Based in Dar es Salaam, the Project Coordinator will report to the Country Director.

Responsibilities
 Oversee project implementation, including coordination of activities, oversight of programme quality, management of the focal point staff and partnerships
 Maintain good working relationships and engage regularly with relevant stakeholders at the national and local level, including civil society, media outlets, community and religious leaders, local authorities, security officials, and community members
 Oversee all recruitment processes for project field staff if needed
 Provide logistical and organizational support to implement project activities
 Ensure that synergies between both VE projects in Tanzania are harnessed and maximized, having activities and approaches build on each other towards a shared goal
 Identify support needs for the project and initiate requests for support from HQ and regional offices
 Create annual and quarterly budgeted operational plans for the project;
 Manage the budgets and oversee the sound financial management of the projects in line with SFCG and donors’ policies and procedures, including approval of activity budgets, monitoring expenditure against available budget and projecting activity and operational costs throughout the budget cycle, working closely with SFCG finance teams

 Ensure timely grant reporting (on monthly, quarterly and annual basis) in compliance with SFCG and donor requirements
 Coordinate Monitoring and Evaluation efforts, working with program staff, SFCG’s DM&E Specialists from the Institutional Learning Team and donors as needed. Responsibilities include
developing monitoring a framework and data collection tools, quarterly progress reviews, oversight of data collection and analysis, etc.
 Represent SFCG at donor and partner meetings as appropriate, in particular those related to PVE efforts in the region
 Maintain regular written and oral reporting to the Country Director on key country, regional, program, security and staff issues, as well as support reporting to HQ
 Create visibility of the project and SFCG through written material, photos, success stories, updated web site, social media and traditional media
 Provide support and advice to other PVE programs and projects as requested by HQ, regional office or Country Director
 Contribute to the consolidation of PVE programming across the organization

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Qualifications
 Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in a related area, preferably in conflict resolution, international studies, peace-building, or human rights;
 At least three (3) years of experience in peacebuilding, development and/or related fields
 Previous experience or local context work in PVE, interfaith dialogue, community dialogue, and/or work with youth and women, preferably in Tanzania
 Experience in managing partnerships and coordinating complex, sensitive projects
 Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders
 Demonstrated experience in budget and financial management, including knowledge of international donors’ financial policies and procedures and ability to manage multi-donor funding
 Demonstrated experience in the production of narrative and financial reports for international donors, including basic graphic design in Word and Power Point
 Experience and proven track record of successful fundraising and proposal writing, and/or tender writing considered an advantage
 Knowledge of design, monitoring and evaluation (DM&E) tools is an asset
 Dynamic, creative and solution-oriented
 Spoken and written fluency in Kiswahili and English
 Willingness to travel to remote areas
