Introduction to Basic Bioinformatics Course
Dates: 14th – 18th November 2016
Place: KCMU College, Moshi Tanzania
The KCMU College in collaboration with CMP - Copenhagen University and the Danish Technical University (DTU) will be conducting an introductory course in basic bioinformatics sponsored by the Building Stronger Universities (BSU-II) Initiative.
The following topics will be covered including hands-on practices:
1. The central dogma of life – basic molecular biology
2. PCR as a diagnostic tool – the basics
3. Whole genome sequencing
4. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies
5. Setting up NGS
6. Databases (storage and sources of sequences)
7. Basic Sequence Analysis
8. Application of sequencing/bioinformatics
Eligibility:
Applicants should have first degree training in Molecular biology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry or Microbiology or MSc students with proven basic experience in the mentioned subjects. In addition, the applicant needs to provide arguments of relevance of the course to his/her current or future career.
Priority will be given to employees or students of KCMUCo/KCMC or participants from collaborating projects/institutions.

Scientists wishing to attend the course should send their brief motivation letters describing their wishes and why the course is highly relevant to their career. Application letters plus brief CVs (max 2 pages) should be emailed to: r.kavishe@kcri.ac.tz before 30th October 2016. Limited places are available.
Sponsorship:
The course fees, course materials, lunch and refreshments served during the course will be covered by BSU. Participants will be required to meet all other costs including travel and accommodation.
