Overview of Role:
CHAI Tanzania is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and organization skills to lead the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and surveillance components of this program. This individual will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of three M&E interventions: patient exit interviews, mystery client surveys and provider surveys; and two routine surveillance efforts: registers and supportive supervision checklists. The individual will need to work closely with the program manager as well as members of the global malaria and essential medicines team to ensure that the M&E and surveillance activities are aligned with the programmatic work and that data generated from these efforts is used for decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Technical support:
Finalize study protocols with support from global malaria and essential medicine teams
Collate data from M&E interventions as well as routine data collection and assess quality and suitability for analysis
Conduct relevant analyses of data sets generated by the patient exit interviews, provider and mystery client surveys as well as routine M&E and surveillance activities
Build and manage relationships with the relevant regional and district health officials responsible for surveillance activities
Develop content for and preparation of data review meetings at the national and regional level
Support program manager in leading the data review meetings
Building the capacity of regional and district health officials to analyse and use data generated from the surveillance activities
Act as key liaison on M&E and surveillance activities between global and country teams
Programmatic support:
Prepare and manage detailed workplan for M&E and surveillance activities
Develop training and data collection materials for M&E and surveillance activities
Support the program manager in ensuring that the M&E and surveillance activities are aligned with programmatic work plans and inform policy processes
Support implementation of relevant data collection activities including field testing, training and evaluation
Manage team of data collectors responsible for M&E activities
Identify and engage in relevant forums to discuss data insights generated by M&E and surveillance activities
Where relevant, liaise with academic institutions and/or other implementing partners that might have relevant data that can be leveraged for program monitoring
Synthesize results and disseminate them internally and externally through presentations, reports, briefs and publications
Support program manager in donor reporting activities including consolidation of relevant data and evidence of impact
Other responsibilities as needed
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or related field preferred; or Bachelor’s degree minimum with exceptional experience
3-5 years of work experience, ideally in a surveillance and/or M&E capacity
High levels of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications
Experience working with at least 1 statistical software e.g. STATA, SPSS, SAS.
Demonstrated excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational abilities and detail-oriented approach that does not lose sight of the bigger picture
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a multicultural environment
Patience and thoughtfulness even in high-pressure, stressful situations
Strong spoken and written English
Advantages:
Experience working in Tanzania or another developing country context
Knowledge of malaria
Experience with sample size calculations, protocol development and IRB applications will be very helpful
Experience with infectious disease control programs
