Community Mobiliser/Tracer/Messenger - Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU)

  VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT


 The Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU) based at the National Institute for Medical Research
campus in Mwanza, Tanzania is a collaborative research unit of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine 
and the National Institute for Medical Research. The mission of MITU is to contribute to improving health
through the development and evaluation of interventions to prevent H
IV and other health problems by
conducting research, including clinical trials
, to the highest international standards; to enhance the capacity to
carry out such research in Tanzania and the East African
region; and to contribute to the translation of
research f
indings into health policy.
MITU is currently collaborating with other international research partners on an exciting research study to determine if it is possible to reduce the number of doses of the vaccine that is used to prevent cervical cancer, known as the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. The study will be conducted with healthy female volunteers. The Unit is now inviting applications from motivated and suitably qualified candidates to work as a community mobiliser/tracer/messenger on the study:
Specific responsibilities
·        Providing study information to potential participants, parents and teachers and other community
members as required.
·        Guiding and supporting potential participants to visit study clinics.
·        Obtaining and maintaining records of contact information of participants recruited in the study.
·        Working with nursing officers to manage participants' follow-up visit appointments.
·        Maintaining tracing information for participants.
·        Tracing study participants to ensure they attend all planned visits according to study protocol.
·        Sending sample and forms from the research clinic to the main office or laboratory.
·        Performing other trial-related work as requested by the principal investigator or trial manager.
Essential qualifications
·        At least a certificate in health or community development studies or related field.
·        At least one year's work experience (excluding any internship) in a health or community development
project or a related field.
·        Excellent written and spoken English.
·        Computer literacy with proven ability to work with MS Office.
·        Proven independent organisational ability as evidenced by previous work.
·        Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
Desirable qualifications
·        Experience in clinical trials or clinical research.
·        Previous GCP training.
·        Work experience in schools and/or with adolescents.
