Position: Accountant
Reports to: Country Manager, Regional Finance Manager and Group Finance Manager/Controller
Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Responsibilities
Objective: To ensure safety and efficient utilization of the financial resources of the company through expenditure planning and control and cash management within the finance and accounting policy and regulations of the company.
Overall Responsibility: Responsible for the overall financial management, Accounting and treasury responsibilities, and tax management of the country office. Take full line responsibility for all financial functions of the country office.
Main responsibilities:
Management accounts and Cost Analysis: Preparation of monthly financial reports, including balance sheet, departmental P&L account vs. budget and cash forecast. Provide comparisons of actual job expenditure with projected costs. Provide management with projections of jobs costs and controlling and counter-signing all documents such as quotations, client proposals and any other aspects affecting the financial performance of the company. Ad hoc financial planning exercises as may be required.
Financial Control: ensuring correct authorization of payments and that payment are in line with established budgets and the company financial policy. Maintain all subsidiary ledgers to retail control of assets of the company.
Cash management: Daily recording of cash and bank transactions, including the management of current balances to ensure that payments are possible on due dates. Weekly statement to the respective contract managers of details of all outstanding invoices on their accounts and the period outstanding.
Based on the agreed annual work program from the various divisions/ units, prices from the internal control unit and general cost standard of the company, prepare draft annual budgets and submit to the country manager for comments and review following the established committee process. Finalise the draft and forward to the Head office
Monitor and control budgeting provisions and trends
Monitor budget implementation in relation to program of work performance and prepare monthly progress report bringing out variances and recommendation for action.
Supervise all financial matters of the company including the keeping of proper books of accounts, prepare daily, monthly and annual financial reports, bank and cash transactions and all financial transactions of the company.
Costing all proposed contracts; monitor and analyse variances; provide financial cost and expenditure audit and analysis as required for correct and efficient management of the company.
To be in charge of assets and ensure that proper controls, procedure and custody are devised and maintained; to authorise delivery, issuance and replenishment of supplies.
Invoice clients and follow up remittances; check and authorise all payments; and receive Bank Company/ cheques.
Prepare payroll and supervise payment of wages and salaries; to advise country management on all financial matters including tax issues.
Ensuring timely preparation and submission of tax returns and their due payment.
Countersign approval of all contracts and any other documents (internal or external) with a financial impact or implications on the country operation.
Skills and Requirements
University graduate in accounting, finance and other related fields with at least 2 years of work experience in a reputable company or financial institution. Experience working in agribusiness/commodities a plus.
Strong knowledge of Sage Pastel software
CPA/ACCA/CIMA holders have a plus advantage.
Fluent in English language.
